How To: Block Specific Artists in Spotify Playlists & Stations So You Never Have to Hear Them Again

If you absolutely hate one particular musician, hearing them littered throughout playlists and radio stations on your preferred streaming music service can be quite annoying, to say the least. One particular service, Spotify, has finally resolved this issue by allowing you to block specific artists from ever playing again. While not out quite yet, the artist-blacklisting feature will be coming to iPhones and Android phones very soon, likely as a response to the R. Kelly controversy. Spotify has already removed the singer from Spotify-curated playlists, but his music can still be heard across the platform. In the past, Spotify chose not to offer a mute option for bands and solo artists, according to website Thurrott, but has since caved.Don't Miss: How to Download Spotify Music for Offline Listening Blocking an artist on Spotify is only available right now in some alpha/beta versions of the app, for which you can join and start using right away, but the feature will likely come to the stable version soon. To block a specific artist, it's as easy as tapping on the ellipsis (•••) icon on an artist's page, then "Don't play this artist." After hiding an artist, they will no longer show up or play in Discover Weekly, Daily Mixes, and radio stations. They'll also disappear from automatically curated playlists, as well as genre, charts, new releases, and even your own custom playlists. However, when a guest collaborator on another artist's track, those will still play, as Spotify only blocks songs from the main artist. As mentioned, the artist will be hidden from your own custom playlists, but any songs you've liked by the artist will still show up in your "Favorite Songs" playlist. You'll also still be able to search for the artist in case you want to unblock them. Un-blacklisting them is just like blocking them — tap the ellipsis (•••) on their profile page, then "Allow to play this artist." The new mute/block feature on Spotify will be available to everyone, whether you're a free user or a Spotify Premium subscriber, and will work on both iOS and Android devices. It will likely work on desktop versions of Spotify as well.Don't Miss: How to Change Spotify Playlist Pictures from Your iPhone Instead of from Your ComputerFollow Gadget Hacks on Pinterest, Reddit, Twitter, YouTube, and Flipboard Sign up for Gadget Hacks' daily newsletter or weekly Android and iOS updates Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Flipboard
