How To: Improve Data Speeds by Changing PRLs on Your Samsung Galaxy S3 for Sprint and Verizon
PRL, or Preferred Roaming List, basically tells your phone which towers to connect to first. Changing PRLs can improve reception and data speeds, and in some cases even give you access to corporate/test towers.Because PRLs only operate on CDMA networks, this method only applies to Sprint and Verizon (ATT and T-mobile utilize GSM networks).

How to Change PRLs on the GS3 (Sprint Users ONLY)Luckily for Sprint users, the method to change your PRL is very easy. All you need is a PRL file (a list at the end of this article explains them all).Download the PRL zip you want to use and extract the file. This will leave you with a ".prl" file. Place this file into the root of your internal SD card. Rename the file "TEST.prl". Unplug your phone and turn off WiFi and Data. Now, go to your Dialer and type ##DATA# (##3282#). This will take you to the hidden "Data Programming" menu. Go ahead and hit "View". Now click on "PRL Write". Your device will reboot. When you are back up, turn on Data (and WiFi if you'd like). That's all there is to it for Sprint. But that was really easy, so let's do it the SoftModder way and expand our knowledge base of GS3 tools.
How to Change PRLs on the GS3 (Any CDMA Network)Sprint and Verizon users, as well as smaller CDMA networks (i.e. Boost) can use the DFS CDMA Tool.What You Will NeedA PRL file, just like before. The [http://www.cdmatool.com/Demo/ DFS CDMA Tool (click on the "Download" button on the top-right). Your MSL number (Sprint) or SPC number (Verizon, this is usually "oooooo"). Obtaining your MSL/SPC number is as easy as calling up your carrier and asking for it. They will freely give it to you. Other options include using the MSL Finder app. If that does not work, you are probably on Jelly Bean, so you will need to make a quick call to your carrier.

Step 1: Enable Use of DFS CDMA ToolThe use of this tool requires a non-standard USB connection (i.e. Download Mode, or just DM).Open the Dialer and type in ##DIAG# (##3424#). Click on "Qualcomm USB Settings" and select "DM + Modem + ADB" then press "OK". Plug your device into your PC and go to Device Manager. Locate "SAMSUNG Mobile USB Serial Port" and remember the COM number (in this case, COM5).

Step 2: Load Device into DFS CDMA ToolOpen DFS CDMA Tool. If you are using the Demo version, there will be a small countdown and the app will launch.In the upper left-hand corner, hit the "Ports" button and select the port you found in Device Manger. Double-click the port, and double-click it on the bottom to load your device into the software. Enter your MSL/SPC number where it says "SPC" and hit the blue arrow. You should see the log show "Device Unlocked".

Step 3: Write New PRLHit the programming tab, then the NAM sub tab. On the right-side, load the PRL that you want, then hit "Write". Disconnect your device, go back to Step 1 and put your device back to "MTP + ADB". Back out of the menu and reboot your device.
Confirming PRL ChangeGo to Settings -> About Device -> Status. Scroll down to "PRL" and confirm that it has been changed.

Ever since 2009, you could send a photo or video that you've already taken right from the Messages app on your iPhone. You would just tap on the camera icon next to the new message box, then choose either to take a new one or select one from your library. If you're running iOS 12, that's no longer the case, but that doesn't mean the capability is gone entirely.When you tap on the camera icon in the Messages app in iOS 12, it launches right into the camera so you can take a new picture or video. This allows you to take advantage of Apple's new camera effects, which includes cool filters, text effects, shapes, and sticker packs, among other things. And while making lenses and filters have gotten pretty easy, distributing them is another matter entirely.Each lens and filter that users make automatically get their own Snapcode, a QR code-like image that other Snapchat users can scan to unlock the lens or filter. One of the many perks of being a Nexus user is that Google bakes in all sorts of goodies for use on its dessert-themed OS. From an easily unlocked bootloader, to a smooth and well-crafted "stock" UI experience, to being one of the first devices to receive updates straight from Mountain Viewâ€”team Nexus is the team to beat.Another longstanding staple of the Nexus phone, from the N1 to the current N5 standard bearer, is the LED notification light. Though many smartphones include one, the colors of the LED are normally limited to red and blue, but not for you, dear Nexus user.Your LED notification light can flash orange, purple, and even turquoise. Its pulse rate can be adjusted, the apps the colors correspond to can be customized, and I'm going to tell you how to do it. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.

Customizing Your LED Notifications Without RootingApp developer Reactle has a treat for you with their Light Flow Lite - LED Control app. There are other LED customization apps we've told you about in the past, including LEDBlinker Notifications and Light Manager, but Light Flow best serves our purposes here on our Nexus 5. It also enables you to tune a larger color palette, which really comes in handy on your Nexus 5 since the device allows for that kind of color diversity. Light Flow also has, by far, the cleanest and easiest to use UI, and in my testing, has proven itself to be the most stable and functional of the three apps.

Setting Up Light Flow on Your Nexus 5A quick visit to the Google Play will score you a download of Light Flow Lite, which is the free version, and more than adequate for our needs. The paid version will set you back $2.49 and provides support "for over 600 different notifications," but the free version's support list is also quite extensive, so go free for now and see if you dig it first.Once installed, opening the app will bring you to a permission screen asking you to enable notification access. Agreeing will take you to the settings screen where you can get it done. Android will warn you that doing so will give the app access to information, but worry notâ€”this just provides the app with the ability to interact with your notifications, which it'll need to activate the LED. SettingsThis screen houses a comprehensive list of controls that you will likely never need, particularly on the Nexus 5. I never had cause to change anything in there, and I doubt you will either. You'll want to ensure the 'Enable Light Flow' box at the top is ticked, but other than that, I'd say leave it be.
VolumeThis section allows you to use the app to adjust volume settings for alerts and notifications. This functionality is disabled by default, leaving your phone to follow whatever system settings you've previously established. Again, I never found reason to adjust anything here, and you can let it alone unless you feel the urge to tinker.

NotificationsThis section is where it all happens. Tap here and you'll see a scrollable list of cards. These are the notifications you can customize. The notification will be highlighted if it's active, along with a colored circle on the bottom-left corner of the card indicating the color of the LED alert. Tap one of the cards to customize. There will be six tabs worth of settings you can scroll through when you select a card:Notifications Light Sounds Repeating Sounds Vibration Repeat Vibration I only ever worried about the first two (Notification and Light). The array of settings you'll likely see under the Notification header are:Enable Notification Exclude from sleep mode Clear notification style Enable popup Switch screen off You might see expanded options for different cards (for example, the alert for low battery allows you to set the battery threshold). Ticking the first box marked Enable notification will turn on Light Flow functionality. Now for the fun partâ€”customizing the LED light.Scroll to the next tab on the right marked Light and tick the Enable light option. Afterword, you can adjust everything from the color to the flash rate and duration. There are eighteen colors you can select from cyan to sky blue, and I was able to successfully display every single one, so go crazy. One word of warning... if you decide to test a notification by tapping the test tubes icon in the upper-right corner of this screen, the app will tell you that test mode is enabled and the LED will begin flashing the appropriate color within five seconds. If you test and the light doesn't illuminate, don't fret, the Nexus 5 screen needs to be off before the LED lights up.Also, sometimes it takes much longer than five seconds for the LED to light up in test mode. I once clocked in forty-five seconds before my LED gave me the the indigo flash I was looking for.

Advanced Functions in Light FlowIf you're looking to squeeze a little more out of Light Flow, there are a few more tricks the app can offer you. There is an icon at the top of the Notifications card screen that allows you to add a contact to your list of notifications. If you do, tapping that contact will provide you with a list of alerts you can adjust specifically from that person. If you want your phone's LED to flash bright pink when you get a SMS or email from your sweety, this is the place to do it. Another feature I had fun with is Light Flow's ability to control the vibration pattern of your alerts. When on the customization screen for your selected notification card, scrolling to the far right will reveal a Vibration tab. Ticking the Enable vibrate box allows you toy with with some options. You can change the vibration pattern of a specific alert (1 medium vibrate, 1 short 1 medium, etc.). The Nexus 5's spectrum of LED notification colors is a great feature, albeit a slightly hidden one. Light Flow is the perfect way to bring this functionality to the forefront of the user experience with outstanding results. With a little customization, you can use your LED notifier as a looking glass into what's going on in your phone without ever having to touch the power button.

They're still sticking to their guns about the storage options going forward, but if you're already using additional storage as part of the Office365 promotion, you'll be able to keep it for 12 months. On top of that, there are two additional consolation offers, which I'll go over in more detail below.

Get a Free Year of Office 365 & 1 TB of StorageNone of these changes will take place until "early next year," so for the next month or so, everything will stay the same. But when the switch eventually happens, users that were on the free tier of OneDrive will see their maximum storage capacity drop from 15 GB down to just 5 GB.To smooth out this transition, Microsoft will offer to bump any user who is over the new 5-gigabyte storage cap up to a 1-terabyte storage limit for one year. Overall, I love the Nexus 7 tablet, but one thing that I truly dislike about it is having to press the Power/Lock key to lock my screen.To begin with, it's on the right side of the device, and I'm accustomed to it being on the top on other devices, like my phone. Secondly, it's placed on a curve, which makes it awkward to press.If you're like me and dislike locking your screen with the Power/Lock button, then there's another optionâ€”an invisible widget on one of your home screen pages that will lock your Nexus 7 for you. Initially, so did I.This application is a little illusive, but don't worry, you can definitely uninstall it. When you select the app icon in your App Drawer, the application opens to a screen with the sole purpose of uninstalling it, which in many cases works just fine. In my case, I chose to uninstall but noticed the widget was still present. If this happens to you as well, just follow these steps.Long press the app icon and drag it above to the Uninstall option. And the time is almost here for all Internet junkies to improve their game.Microsoft has set the final release date for their much anticipated Internet Explorer 9 for March 14th. Mozilla is still working hard to make Firefox the best browser for web geeks, wand it's not quite ready, but it's almost here. In fact, they just released the Firefox 4 Release Candidate to the public, which means the final release is fast approaching.If you just can't wait any longer, download the Firefox 4 RC and see what it has to offer. Plus, you can help Mozilla improve and fix any last minute bugs before the big finale. See a full list of the new features here.What if you're not willing to let go of Firefox 3.6 just yet, though? If you install the Release Candidate, it will overwrite your 3.6 installation and transfer all of your information (bookmarks, settings, etc.) to the new version. If you're the cautious type (like me), you're not willing to immediately switch, considering it's not a final version. Some of your favorite add-ons could be non-compatible with the new Firefox 4, making it worth the wait until it's fully released and developers have begun to update those plug-ins.But... there is a way to run Firefox 4 RC without trashing Firefox 3.6 altogether. In fact, you can run them at the exact same time in Mac OS X without conflict. It just takes a little work. And I mean little.Step 1 Download Firefox 4 RCGo to Mozilla and download the new Firefox 4 Release Candidate.Just click on the link and follow the download instructions.Step 2 Install on DesktopOnce it's fully downloaded, open the .dmg file, but DO NOT drag Firefox into your Applications folder.Instead, drag and drop it onto your desktop.It's now safe to unmount the Firefox .dmg.Step 3 Rename ItYou need to rename the Firefox 4 application on your desktop. Select the icon and press enter to highlight the text in the title. You should only have one user profile, called "default".Step 7 Create a New ProfileNow you need to create an additional one for use with Firefox 4. Just click on Create Profile and choose your profile nameâ€”I chose FirefoxRC, just like my application title.Step 8 Prevent Firefox from Auto Choosing ProfilesOkay, now that you've create a new Firefox user profile, there's one problemâ€”Firefox will automatically choose the user profile when starting up, meaning when you open up Firefox 3.6 or Firefox 4, both will more than likely use your new user profile, meaning all plug-ins and bookmarks you had will be gone.To stop this from happening, you need to un-check the box next to "Don't ask at startup".Now, click on the Exit button to close the Profile Manager. You may also close Terminal.Step 9 Open Firefox (Either One... Or Both)Okay, now time for the test. Go to your Applications folder and try opening up either Firefox 3.6 or Firefox 4. You can open both if you want, to run them side by side.Each time you try and open up either version, the Firefox Profile Manager will open and ask you which user profile you want to use. If opening up Firefox 3.6, choose default. If going for Firefox 4, choose FirefoxRC (or whatever you named it).And like I said, you can run both at the same time. Just make sure to choose their respective profiles when starting.VoilÃ ! Firefox 3.6 and the new Firefox 4 Release Candidate running at the exact same time, with your personal settings saved in Firefox 3.6 and a brand new start in Firefox 4.These instructions should work with any versions of Firefox, even the new upcoming final release of Firefox 4.
