The number of passwords I have for different websites and emails is easily in the triple digits. And if I had to actually remember all of those individual passwords, I would be locked out of accounts on a daily basis.That's why I use the "remember my password" feature whenever I can. Nearly all of my passwords are saved in my browser's history, so all I need to do is press enter. But sometimes I forget what's behind those little black dots. So, after months of never having to enter a password, you've forgotten what all of your passwords are!So, it's important that you keep track of your passwords, otherwise you'll have to create a new one or rack your brain hoping to finally remember what it was.You could always use a password manager like LastPass and make life easier on yourself in the future, but if you don't like that idea, here's a little trick for Google Chrome and Firefox that will reveal what your saved black-dotted password is.

Revealing Passwords with Inspect ElementIn both Chrome and Firefox, you can use the Inspect Element tool to uncover saved passwords on any website. Simply go to the site where you have a password saved and highlight those little black dots. Once those dots are highlighted, right-click and select the Inspect Element option. When you click on Inspect Element, you will be able to see the webpage's code. This new frame should appear at the bottom of your browser window. Since you have already highlighted the part you are interested in, the password section, it will automatically be highlighted, as you can see in the image above. If you just see the black bar in Firefox, you may have to open the Markup Panel, as seen below. In order to unveil the saved password, you are going to have to alter some text. Locate where it says type ="password". Select the text password and hit Delete. Now, replace it with the word text. Now, press Enter. The second you do, the password box that was previously filled with those standard security dots will now show the complete text of whatever password was saved there.Obviously, this could be used to reveal other people's passwords, too. Like, if your fooling around on your friend's computer, or if some bozo actually saved his/her password on a public computer. Boy, what you could do with somebody else's password!
Other MethodsBelieve it or not, but this "Inspect Element" maneuver is just one of the many ways to reveal saved passwords in a browser. The basic approach would be to just ask for them in the preferences. Another trick is using a JavaScript injection, but that's a little more complicated.

One of Android 8.0's central themes was battery improvements. Google implemented background restrictions and a few other under-the-hood changes, but the biggest battery-saving measure was almost user-hostile: A static notification that tells you when any of your apps are running in the background.This notification couldn't be dismissed, so it's likely that Google did this with the intent of annoying users. You see, if an app hasn't been updated to target Oreo's new API, those background restrictions won't really work. And since Google can't force developers to make their apps more battery-friendly, they did the next-best thing: Annoy users by calling out poorly coded apps with a non-removable notification.Don't Miss: 27 New Features & Changes in Android 8.0 OreoFor security purposes, they also added a static notification when you have any apps that draw over other apps — for instance, popup apps and those with floating bubble interfaces like Facebook Chatheads. These could theoretically trick you into pressing a button that you didn't meant to press, so something had to be done.Thankfully, the new Android 8.1 update that just started rolling out has a compromise for both of these issues. With a tiny bit of work, you can now hide both the "Apps running in the background" (now called "Apps using battery") as well as the "Drawing over other apps" notifications.

Hiding the 'Drawing Over Other Apps' NotificationWhen an app is drawing over top of other apps on Android 8.1, you'll still see that same pesky "Drawing over other apps" notification. You still can't swipe it away, but you can get rid of it altogether.Just long-press the offending notification, then toggle the switch to the off position, and you'll never see this notification for that particular app again. It will still appear for other apps, but you can give those the same treatment.

Hiding the 'Apps Using Battery' NotificationAs for the "Apps running in the background" notification, it's still there in 8.1, but it now says "Apps using battery." Again, you can't just swipe it away, but you can long-press it, then turn the toggle switch off to hide the notification for that particular app (just like with the "Drawing over other apps" notification above).But there's an even better way to handle this one that makes it to where you'll never see this type of notification again. To start, just head to Settings –> Apps & notifications, then tap "See all apps." From there, press the three-dot menu button in the top-right corner and select "Show system." Next, scroll down a bit and select the "Android System" app. From there, tap the "App notifications" entry on the subsequent screen. Finally, scroll down and find the "Apps using battery" setting, then simply disable the switch next to it. From now on, you won't see a notification when apps are running in the background! These are just some of the many changes in the new Android 8.1 update, which will roll out to all eligible Pixel and Nexus devices as an official update in December. Next, tap "Snooze Notifications" and select your preferred time.

Tip 3: Schedule 'Do Not Disturb' Notification SnoozingOne of Slack's best — and possibly underused — features is its "Do Not Disturb" mode. This option allows you to schedule notification snoozing, which stops messages automatically during preset times. If you do not want to hear from work between 5 PM and 9 AM, this is the setting for you.To enable Do Not Disturb, tap the three dots in the top-right corner of the display (or swipe left on iOS) then tap "Settings" and choose "Do Not Disturb." You can actually manually snooze notifications here by tapping "Snooze Notifications," then selecting one of the time options — however, scheduling appears below. With the rise of OLED displays, Android users have been begging Google for a true system-wide dark mode for years. While a system-wide solution is still somewhat unlikely, Google has given in by providing a dark mode for certain apps, including Contacts.With most phones rocking either an AMOLED or POLED display, dark mode has never been more important. Because the pixels in OLED displays emit their own light, the brighter they are, the more power they consume. Ultimately, dark mode can greatly improve battery life by reducing the battery consumption of the screen.The three methods below assume you're using an Android phone that comes with Google's Contacts app pre-installed. This includes Pixel phones, Nexus devices, the Essential Phone, and other devices running Android One. If you have a phone that uses its own OEM-specific Contacts app, the steps will be different — for instance, here's how to enable dark mode on newer Samsung phones.

Method 1: Turn on Dark Mode in ContactsTo begin, make sure you're using the latest version of Google's Contacts app from the Play Store. From there, open Contacts and select the hamburger menu in the top-left corner of the screen. Tap "Turn dark theme on," and that's all there is to it. Once enabled, the main menu, settings, and each saved contact entry will have a black background with white, gray, and blue text. Dark mode will also turn on for the phone (AKA dialer) as well.

Method 2: Turn on Night Mode in Developer OptionsAnother way to turn on Dark mode is to use Developer Options. This method is only available on devices running Android 9 Pie or higher. If your device isn't running this version, Methods 1 and 3 are still available. Again, you'll also need to make sure you're running the latest version of Google's Contacts app from the Play Store.For this method, you'll need to enable Developer Options on your device. Once enabled, open the Developer Options menu in Settings –> System. From there, scroll down a tiny bit and locate the "Night mode" option towards the end of the first section (just above the Debugging header). Tap this option, then choose "Always on" from the popup. At this point, you'll likely have to close and reopen the Contacts app before dark mode will fully kick in. If the main menu is still white, either restart your phone, or open the multitasking screen (either swipe up from the bottom of your screen or hit the square button on the bottom-right), then swipe away the Contacts app card. Once you reopen the Contacts app from here on out, all of the menus and contacts will have dark backgrounds.

Method 3: Turn on Battery SaverFinally, the last method to enable dark mode in Contacts app is to turn on Battery Saver. Once enabled, dark mode will turn on automatically in Contacts on most phones. To do this, open your Settings app, choose "Battery," then select "Battery Saver." Select the button "Turn on now," and Battery Saver will be enabled.Now, make sure to update Google's Contacts app from the Play Store. Just like Method 2, you may have to close and reopen the Contacts app (by opening the multitasking view and swiping away the Contacts card) before dark mode will kick in. Recently, Sprint announced a partnership with Harman Kardon to deliver exclusive sound FX technology to their variant of the HTC One M8. The joint effort between the two companies is both to entice customers to switch to Sprint as well as improve the overall audio quality coming from the already extraordinary BoomSound speakers. But while this is great for new and existing Sprint customers, it does leave the rest of us out in the cold.Thanks to Android dev Adrian Toporan, we can now flash the Harman Kardon audio enhancements through through a custom recovery and bring these FX to almost all carrier variants. Unfortunately, Google Play Editions will not work, as those devices utilize a completely different framework than the standard Sense-based HTC Ones. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.
Before Getting StartedYou will need to have an HTC One with a custom recovery to flash this mod, as well as the following in case any issues arise:Optional: Your device should be S-Off (it's needed in case you can't hear any music). Optional: A file explorer may also be needed (if you don't see the Harman/Kardon setting). No-brainer: A current backup of your phone before starting since this will change some key components of your device.
Step 1: Download the Enable HK File to Your HTC OneLuckily, the Enable HK .zip file is universal for all models, so follow the link below and download the file directly to your phone's storage. Note that the file below is version 3. Newer versions of this file may be available through the development thread.Download the enable_hk_v3.zip on your HTC One. After the download finishes, reboot your phone into your custom recovery—in this case I will be using TWRP. To get there, hold the Power and Volume Down buttons for 10~20 seconds and when you see the bootloader menu, select Recovery using the Power button.

Step 2: Flash the Tweak in RecoveryFrom the TWRP main menu, tap the Install option, select the .zip you downloaded earlier, then Swipe to Install. Once the install finishes, tap Reboot and wait for your device to restart.

Step 3: Verify the InstallationIf you're currently a Verizon Wireless subscriber, proceed to the next step, as you have one more thing you need to do.If you have an AT&T, T-Mobile, or International variant, then open your Settings app and make sure you see the harman/kardon audio toggle. If it is not there, or you don't hear any audio coming out of your speakers, follow the troubleshooting steps below the next step.
Step 4: Flash Custom Settings Menu (Verizon Wireless Only)As mentioned above, Verizon Wireless customers have one extra step, which is to flash an updated Settings menu. This is a necessary step for seeings the new Harman/Kardon settings in your stock ROM. Grab this additional file:Download the verizon_hk_settings_fix.zip file. And just like we did above, flash this file in recovery, then reboot your device to see your new settings.

Troubleshooting: Don't See the Harman/Kardon Setting?If the setting isn't there, you'll need to adjust a line in the default.xml file on your device. To do this, you are going to need a file explorer like ES File Explorer.Open ES File Explorer Go to /system/customize/ACC/ Open the default.xml file with ES Note Editor and search for: <item type="boolean" name="support_harman">false</item> Change false to true Save your changes and reboot your phone, after which you should be all set!

Troubleshooting: Have the Setting, but Can't Hear Any Music?If you can't hear any audio, that is because you need to update your Advanced Digital Signal Processor, or ADSP, firmware. Updating is not a problem, but it does require you to have an S-Off device.Because the firmware file cannot be flashed from TWRP, you will need to use ROM Update Utility (RUU) mode. Make sure USB debugging is enabled and that ADB is installed on your computer.Once you have the firmware file downloaded on your computer, place it on your Desktop and rename it ADSP.zip. After you're done with that, connect your M8 to your computer and open up command/terminal and enter the following commands:adb reboot bootloader fastboot oem rebootRUU Now, wait until you see a black screen with a silver HTC logo on your M8 before you continue, then enter the following:fastboot flash zip Desktop/ADSP.zip fastboot reboot

Troubleshooting: If All Else Fails...If you find that neither of these fixes work, you may need to flash a new ROM that has a 1.5 or above Sense 6 build number, in order to see the new setting. This happens because ROMs, custom or stock, that have a base below 1.5 do not have the code necessary to display the Harman Kardon settings. To check your base version, go to Settings -> About -> Software Information -> More and look under Build Number. If you are looking for a stock ROM with a 1.5 build, the ARHD Team hosts an up-to-date version on their website. As far as custom ROMs go, you can always check out the M8 page over at XDA to see which one has the mods that suit your needs. If you did everything right, you should now have an HTC One with Harman Kardon audio. This is LG's first 5G phone, which means faster cellular data speeds that rival Wi-Fi 6.
