While the iPhone XS and XS Max come equipped with 4 GB of random access memory, and the iPhone XR with 3 GB of RAM, Apple's latest flagships are still susceptible to occasional slowdowns in performance in iOS 12. This can be fixed by clearing RAM, but the process is now a little trickier compared to iPhones with Home buttons.In terms of memory management, the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR are solid choices, as they perform this essential task with precision, and they can allocate which system services and apps are using their fair share to ensure efficient operation. Even having a full RAM usually won't bog down your device, thanks to iOS 12's ability to automatically purge some RAM to make way for processes in need.Despite this, there are apps and services that consume way more RAM than they're supposed to, which can result in erratic performance â€” or worse. While you have the option of force-closing a problematic app from the app switcher, it may not completely kill it, and it still may continue to consume some of your iPhone's resources without you knowing.Don't Miss: How to Force-Close Running Apps on the iPhone X & Higher To take things a step further, you can perform a hard reboot on your iPhone XS, XS Max, or XR to bring its system back to peak efficiency. Unfortunately, the button combination required to force restart your iPhone is not as intuitive as its Home-button equipped predecessors, but you still have the ability to clear your iPhone's RAM without the need to reboot it.

Step 1: Activate AssistiveTouchLike the iPhone X, Apple's latest batch of flagships now rely on the Side button for a whole slew of tasks, though it can't be used to clear the RAM like the familiar Home button can on past iPhones. Because of this, we'll need to enable the virtual Home button found within AssistiveTouch to perform this task.To get started, open the Settings app, tap "General," then select "Accessibility." Now, tap on "AssistiveTouch" within the Interaction section to view its preferences. From there, you'll be able to set some custom actions and gestures, but to keep it simple, toggle on "AssistiveTouch" to summon a gray and white circle resembling a Home button on your screen. Step 2: Make a Shortcut for AssistiveTouch (Optional)If you're not planning on using this RAM-clearing on a frequent basis, you can go ahead and scroll down to the third step. But if you want to make a habit of regularly employing this trick, we highly recommend setting up a shortcut to instantly enable and disable AssistiveTouch on your iPhone on the fly without having to access the Settings app each time.To do so, go back to "Accessibility," scroll all the way down to the bottom, and hit "Accessibility Shortcuts," then make sure "AssistiveTouch" is checked on the following page. Now, the AssistiveTouch icon will instantly open or close whenever you triple-click the Side button.It's worth noting that if you have Accessibility Shortcut enabled for other features besides AssistiveTouch, triple-clicking on your iPhone's Side button will yield a menu from which you can select "AssistiveTouch" to enable or disable the feature, as you can see in the screenshot below.More Info: How to Open the Accessibility Shortcuts on the iPhone X & Higher Once you have "AssistiveTouch" enabled an accessibility shortcut, you also have the option to enable the "Accessibility Shortcuts" toggle in the Control Center for even more access to AssistiveTouch. Step 3: Shut Down Your iPhoneNow comes the crucial step â€” like the iPhone X, you'll need to stay within the Settings app of your iPhone XS, XS Max, XR to power it down, unlike past iPhones which let you initiate this command from any screen as long as it isn't locked or on the lock screen.That said, head to "General" within the Settings app, and select "Shut Down" on the bottom of the page, as using the shortcut with the button presses will merely lock your iPhone and disable Face ID. Step 4: Clear Your RAM with the Virtual Home ButtonWith the AssistiveTouch menu on hand, you're now free to clean out your RAM, so tap on the AssistiveTouch on-screen icon (or 3D Touch, long-press, or double-tap it if you customized the "Open Menu" action in Step 2).Next, tap-and-hold on the virtual Home button within the expanded AssistiveTouch menu. Keep holding onto the button, and wait until the screen turns black and followed quickly by a white flash. You'll be instantly returned to the previous screen once the process is complete.Performing this not only flushes your iPhone's RAM of almost all background processes, but it also wipes any temporary files from the temporary storage â€” all while leaving essential system processes, along with apps that have special permission to continue running as is, unscathed. Recent apps available on your app switcher will still remain intact, though most of them will be refreshed upon reopening. The iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR are the fastest iPhones to date, and it shows. As a testament to their overall speed, any recently wiped app you access either via app switcher or 3D Touch shortcut will refresh so quickly that it's almost certain to escape your attention. Usually, a reopened app will refresh back to its initial page, though sometimes, you're taken directly to where you left off.It's worth mentioning that this nifty trick extends well beyond Apple's latest batch of iPhones, and will work on other iOS devices, as long as they're running on iOS 11 up to iOS 12. Hacking VineIf you're ready to throw caution to the wind and bypass the 6 second restriction, there are a few prerequisites you'll need:Jailbroken iPhone iFile (from Cydia) If you plan on taking the long videos with your iPhone's camera app, you'll also need to covert the .mov files to .mp4 files, so keep that in mind.The process involves switching the names of two .mp4 video files via iFile, which is pretty simple, but may take a while at first because you have to go through so many different menus. Once you get the hang of it, you'll start to remember the steps and it'll become much easier.Switching the names lets you trick Vine into thinking the file you're uploading is actually just a legit, 6 second video. Editing a Website with Clone ZoneStart by going to Clone Zone and either selecting one of the handful of pre-selected websites available or entering a website URL of your choice into the box at the top left. Since CNN wasn't one of the pre-selected options, I entered CNN.com into the address bar and clicked on "Clone." CNN (or whatever site you selected) will then appear as it currently looks, except with the option to edit text, select pictures, enter hyperlinks, and more. I replaced the cover image on CNN, then edited lots of the text and hyperlinks. When you click on text, a blue bubble will appear that you can use to bold, italicize, and underline text, as well as add a hyperlink or insert a picture. Once you're done editing, click on "Save Clone" at the bottom right of the page. You'll then be asked to enter a unique URL for your cloned website, choose a cover title and description (that's good to fill out if you post it on Facebook), then select a cover image. Finally, publish your clone website and either copy the hyperlink or share it directly to Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms. Below you can see a clone I created, posted on my Facebook page. Looks legit, right? The only giveaway is the URL, which will have "clonezone" in it, and a ticker at the bottom of the page will scroll a warning across the screen after a few seconds. For a site that is supposed to be fooling someone, a less obvious domain name would have been better, like "newsstory" or something. In some cases, you can successfully obfuscate the URL by using a link-shortening service, but sites like Facebook will always show the original URL anyway.

Using Clone Zone on MobileWhile it's far from perfect, you can also use Clone Zone on your mobile device. I used it on my iPhone 6 and it worked decently, allowing me to edit text and add photos from my gallery. Just like on the PC version, you can save your cloned website and copy or share your link through social media. Sometimes you need more than just your brain to split the bill at a restaurant or to calculate how much your cable company is ripping you off.If your math skills are shaky like mine, or you just want to make sure you're unequivocally correct with your calculations, you obviously want to use a calculator. While the default calculator on Samsung Galaxy S3 is fine and dandy, it's just so...vanilla. Choosing Your Calculator ThemesTo change the theme, hit the gear icon embedded in the keyboard to access the app settings. In the themes section, select a color pattern by tapping on its image and it'll automatically be applied.

Tweaking the Calculator SettingsSwiping to the left will move you into the Settings where you can adjust the display. Selecting Full Keyboard layout will add an advanced calculations section above the normal calculator (Normal vs. Full below seen below). Alternatively, this section can be accessed by sliding up on the display while using the normal calculator. And keeping the Thousands separators unchecked will remove the commas from longer strings of digits.

Experimenting with Lab FeaturesAnother swipe to the left in the Settings takes us to the Labs section, where newly implemented tweaks can be tested. Both of these features are somewhat redundant, but cool if you want to add more to the app. Swipe to perform calculation allows you to swipe down on the keyboard to perform the calculation. But since the calculation occurs as soon as it is input, this is more of a visual thing than an actual benefit.Swipe to clear, as the name implies, clears the screen back to zero with a quick swipe in the display area (where the calculation is performed). Again, you can clear the screen by pressing C on the keyboard, but who doesn't love options?

Swiping for History & Advanced FeaturesYou can access your calculation history by swiping up at anytime, as shown on the left below. This will bring up your recent calculations and can be cleared by hitting the the staggered lines in the bottom left. And as stated earlier, swiping from the bottom while in normal mode will bring up the advanced calculations, as shown on the right above.

Adding Keys to Your CalculatorLastly, you can add operators and constants to the keyboard itself. By swiping up once in full screen mode and swiping up twice in normal mode, you will bring up the additional keys. Tap on the + icon to bring up the tiny menu where you can choose between Operator and Constant. Once you are satisfied with the added keys, hit done and the changes will be saved. If you are unhappy with those additions, the calculator can be reset back to stock using the RESET key. Doing calculations is super fast as well. Entering in actions like 6 + 6 will automatically update without the need to hit the equal sign, which makes doing long calculations much faster. At the end of 2017, Mozilla introduced the world to Quantum. While desktop Firefox received all the improvements, Android users were stuck waiting for one of the biggest components to hit, which brought speed that surpassed Google Chrome. Well the wait is over, the new and improved Firefox Mobile is finally here.Quantum is one of the biggest updates in Firefox's history. Tired of being the good but slow browser, Mozilla introduced a number of changes geared toward faster performance. While Android received many of the changes, a key component was delayed until the v60.0 release. The beta is finally out for v60.0, and with it comes the one major piece that transforms Firefox Mobile into Firefox Quantum.
From Gecko to ServoFirefox has always been a full-featured web browser that included a number of tools to assist with the browsing experience, such as extensions and themes. For years, it was built on Gecko, a browser engine that was first created for Netscape in 1997.Despite its flexibility, Firefox is a notoriously slow browser, especially when compared to Google Chrome. This lack of performance spearheaded the Servo project, a new browser engine which is vastly superior to its predecessor.Experimentation for this new engine started in 2013. After three years, Mozilla realized that several more years would be needed for Servo to become a complete browser engine. Instead of waiting, Mozilla decided to start the Quantum project, which took many of the stable portions of the Servo project and incorporated them into Firefox.

Enter Firefox QuantumFirefox Quantum is actually comprised of several components. The new Photon UI improves user experience and was designed for faster interaction. Necko, Firefox's networking layer, was improved for faster transfer of data.However, the biggest improvement to Quantum, the change which is the most responsible for Mozilla's claim of performance in line with Google Chrome, is the new CSS engine, Stylo. Stylo is a combination of innovations from multiple different browsers, including Chrome and Servo. It takes advantage of the multiple cores of modern hardware by parallelizing the different components (more on that later). It is with this component alone that Firefox now offers comparable speed to Chrome.The CSS engine is so important because it's a part of the browser's rendering engine. CSS files are responsible for all the styling and colors of a page. The faster this is rendered, the faster you see the webpage on your display. Stylo improves rendering speed by parallelizing, which splits up styling computation and runs them across the multiple cores of modern CPUs. Going forward, the idea is that as cores increase, so will performance. Just think, the Snapdragon 845 uses eight cores, so devices using this chipset should see huge performance gains.When Firefox v57.0 was introduced, all these changes were included in the desktop update. However, for mobile users, all but Stylo was included. While Stylo integration isn't possible with iOS (all browsers must be based on Safari's browser engine, WebKit), it was with Android. So while Android users did see a small increase in speed due to the other changes, it wasn't Firefox Quantum speed.
Available now in beta is Firefox v60.0, which brings the Stylo CSS engine to Android. While Mozilla didn't set a date for when this will reach the stable channel, expect an upgrade in few weeks as beta users test out the improvements. In this video, we learn how to build a portable personal heater. This is a great weekend project that is easy to make and will keep you warm during a freezing winter. You will need: two double a batteries, charger, twin double a battery charger, winding wire, and balsa wood. First, cut the wood the size of the battery holder and cut it out. Now, reel off 30 ft of winding wire and hold down with duct tape. Wind the wire around the piece of wood and tape down the other end of the wire. Scrape off parts of the end of the wires, then apply hot glue to the battery holder and attach the wood with coil. Now, solder the connections from the wires onto the battery holder.
